The objective was to communicate the idea of "extension" using three 2x4's. I approached this in a ecological/product design oriented way. My concept for this project was to extend the 2x4 pine as a resource itself. First I fabricated the mold using a small portion of one of the 2x4s and then burned the rest down to fine ash. This ash along with pine tree seeds were encapsulated within 12 molded sugar glass containers. The exciting part is that these containers were pointed to aid in piercing into the ground and the material itself (sugar) would simply wash away leaving a seed and nutritious ash impregnated in the ground. I spent quite a bit of time perfecting the sugar glass pouring method, but the complexity of the process justified the extra time spent.
